Comet SWAN25F: A New Celestial Visitor

Discovered in late March 2025 by Australian amateur astronomer Michael Mattiazzo, Comet SWAN25F is currently gracing our skies. The comet features a bright green coma and a thin tail. Although not yet visible to the naked eye, it can be observed using telescopes or binoculars. Optimal viewing conditions include clear, dark skies away from city lights, particularly around the new moon on April 27. The comet is presently visible low above the northeastern horizon during early morning hours and is expected to reach its peak brightness on May 1, 2025. Post-perihelion, it will become visible only from the Southern Hemisphere. Stargazers can use apps like Star Walk to help locate the comet near the bright star Scheat.
