Met Gala 2025 Pays Tribute to Black Fashion and Designers

The 2025 Met Gala, held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, was a landmark event celebrating Black fashion and designers under the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This theme paid homage to Black dandyism and the evolution of menswear within the Black diaspora, marking the first time the gala focused exclusively on Black designers and the first menswear-centered theme in over two decades .

One of the evening’s most talked-about moments was Rihanna’s surprise announcement of her third pregnancy. She made a dramatic entrance in a custom Marc Jacobs ensemble that featured a pinstriped suit transformed into a maxi dress with a cropped blazer, a separate collar and tie, and a wide-brimmed hat. The outfit cleverly showcased her baby bump, capturing media and fan attention alike .

Earlier in the day, Rihanna had been seen departing the Carlyle Hotel in a stylish two-piece Miu Miu outfit that subtly revealed her pregnancy. Her partner, A$AP Rocky, who served as a co-chair for the event, confirmed the pregnancy in a later interview, expressing their happiness about the growing family .

The gala also featured standout appearances from other celebrities embracing the menswear theme. Diana Ross made an iconic arrival in a silver cape embroidered with the names of her descendants, while Janelle Monáe donned a dual-hued illusion ensemble symbolizing time-traveling dandyism . The event successfully highlighted the richness and diversity of Black fashion, making it a night to remember.
